Day 1 — Sochi 2014 Pictures

This is a collection of pictures from my first day in Sochi, February 8th, 2014.
These are pics from on the way up to the mountains from Sochi to Krasnaya Polyana, a town up in the Caucasus Mountains, and home of Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort, which had built inside it the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. (Ironically the link to the Extreme Park is to the Australian team’s page!  The Web has so little for something that has been constructed as an Olympic venue!)
These pics are from the Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.  Sweet venue and so cool to see the scale of the course…massive!!!  It was about 200 steps from the gondola down to where the grandstands were located, giving you a side view of the entire course as you walked down to the venue.  So dope! This is where the first gold medal of the games was awarded to Sage Kotsenburg, who killed it that day! So proud to be an American and that Sage brought home the first gold of this year’s Olympics!

Below is video of one of Ryan Stassel’s runs in the finals of the event.

These pics are from after the competition when making my way back to the train station at Krasnaya Polyana.  They built this beautiful village along the river with tons of shops, hotels, and live entertainment venues.  There were even deejays spinning music, and much to my joy, house music!!!
